5 Months!!

Story! Today i went on the train to the offices and the stop we go on was packed and we had to shove and shove to get on! it was so packed!! then the next stop more people wanted on... and that happened like 5 more times! then it was time for us to get off and we were pretty far away from the door! we were shoving and shoving! it was crazy! litteraly there was no room... ever body was in awkward positions and all! im supprised we got off! i guess thats what you get when your in such a big city!!

This week we found 12 news!! we were very excited!! we are really focusing in on getting a really awesome 1st lesson so that we can get a second lesson! because we never get a second chance at a first impression!
we are going by and asking all the inactive members for references and then we have a lesson with them! one family has come back every week for 3 weeks! and there going to give me dinner for my birthday! its working great!

so last monday we were waiting at the bus stop to go back to our appartment! and i only and 6 pesos left and my bus card! enough for 2 rides. luckly a member bus driver drove by and gave us a free ride there! so we were going back and this guy who couldnt talk or hear was trying to get on but didnt have any money! i had a little miricle happen on the way there so that i would have enough for this man to get on! awesome! please remember what christmas is about!! also go to the web site christmas.mormon.org! watch the video!

For God so loved the worldthat he gave his only begottenSonthat whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but haveeverlasting life.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Yesterday we passed by this lady that elder steiner and i passed by once and the first time she slamed the door on us but this time we got in! we were teaching her about the restoration and she was kindof paying attention but little things distracted her really easily! we were about half the way through the lesson when this lady from behind me, who to be quite honest i had no clue was there, started commenting! and they were really good comments! turned out she had been listing the whole time!! so we started to teach to the both of them and at the end of the lessons we set a baptismal date with both of them! the lady said "so if i get baptised that means i need to change and start doing all of the things correct! right?" then she started talking about how much respect she had for us because we are the only religion that really does what we do! were super excited to go back and teach them again!

we still cant get nahuel to come back to church! but were not going to give up! on the other had we have this one family, the molina family who have started coming back! it is so awesome to see them at church!!

Thanks for everything!

Love Elder Groen!

Baptism!

heddyt got baptised!! so in my letter last week i talked about heddyt and how she was very firm in getting baptised in december because it is a special month to her! well we talked to her and convinced her that thanksgiving is also a special day! so she said that she would be baptised this sunday so that she could be confirmed on thanksgiving! super funny because here that isnt even a holliday! it was such an amazing experience to see her get baptised! her husband did like 1 month and a half ago and her son like a month ago and now her! it is so awesome to watch how they have changed and continue to do so! its awesome to see they make the changes nesesary in their lives to go to the temple and be sealed!! they are now working on getting a date to go and do that! we are so excited for them!

right now we are working on two families to get them to come back to church! and it was so awesome because they both did yesterday!! i was so happy! one of the two families has children that need to be baptised to so it will be awesome to see them change that in their lives!

on the retaining factor we can not get this one recent convert to come back... his name is nauhel and he is 15! he is so very nice and loves talking with us and always says he is going to come but then never does... we have had young men go by and invite him but still nothing... i feel like were kind of at a road block with him... were not quite sure what to do... so if you have any ideas we would love the help!!

one message that i took away from every thing this week is that we all have things that we need to change and we need to use the atonment of jesus christ to make those changes! through jesus christ it makes making those changes not only possible but worth our while! and i know that we will not regret, if its through jesus christ what we change!

So heddyt wont budge... she wants to get baptised in december. so i guess i have a baptisim for my birthday! pretty exciting! her husband claudio is taking classes to get the priesthood! super exciting!

Blanca, she is an investigator that elder stiner and i found about three weeks ago, we taught her once and then after that she wouldnt let us in... elder stiner had been wanting to drop her but i felt like we should keep going by! elder wiggins and i went by and we had a miricle! she let us in! we taught her and then invited her to come to curch and she was hesitant but said yes! she came!! and we had a super good sacrament meeting because it was the primary program! so funny, cute, awesome!!

do what your supposed to! i love you! if you put the things of eternal imaportance first and the rest will fall into place or maybe they fall out!

When it Rains, it Rains!!

So it rained a ton this week... so so so much! lujan has like 10 feet of water! here we were walking around in like mid calf deep water so i went and got my self some pretty sweet rain boots! another sweet thing about argentina is that when it rains earth worms dont some out and sit on the sidewalk frogs do! there is so many frogs!!
pero bueno, this week was good! transfers are this week! we'll see what happens!

so out of all the things that happened i want to talk about one in specific! she is one of our investigators who has a date to be baptised on the 8th. she passed her interview with the district leader and all. but she says she wants to wait till december to be baptised because its a special month to her. i feel like she is just making excuses so that she doesnt have to do it yet! she is so good! her husband and kid are both baptised. now were just waiting for her. i honestly think that it wasnt us who set this date i think it was inspiration from god and so that is why i want her to get baptised so bad on this date! but i dont know what to do... any ideas?

love you all have a killer week!!

ALMOST 4 MONTHS!!

so this week went by pretty fast!!

Juan! we were teaching him this week and we got through all the first three lessons! but that ment that we had to teach him the commandments and thats   not so easy... we were pretty nervous going into the word of wisdome lesson but we had faith that it wouldnt be a problem! we taught him and he had a question. he left the room for a second to go get something and we got a little worried! he brought back some tea and he tolds us that he loves tea... he told us that he loves it so much that he imports it for england!! like what?? who even does that? but then a miricle happended. his heart was softened and he leaned to his daughter and said to her you going to have to stop somoking and drinking if were going to do this! ( he was joking!) and then he said he would do it!!
yesterday he came to church and that was super good! he said that he felt like the talks were just for him!
or baptisim from last week showed up in a tank top to be confirmed! haha tipicle argentine!!! (picture attached!)
The other picture is of a kid wearing a u of u football jearsey!! how weird! (intypicle argentine!!)

It is getting so hot here!! i can not believe it... i feel like dying in the sun during the day... and at night its so hard to sleep! the other night when we were all struggling to sleep a car was driving up and down our street shooting a gun in the air... dumb teenagers... it was pretty funny tho because elder stiner had just gotten up to reajust the fan when the started shooting! ive never seen anyone move so fast behind the bed! he was like sticking his head up and down kindof like a prarry dog would! haha! super funny!!

love you all!

Happy argentine mothers day to all of you moms! Argentina is weird and changed the day to october! but dont worry i still call home at the normal mothers day!

This week we were working late on night and we were looking for a reference but couldnt find her... so elder stiner said i let you choose where we go! so i said ok! after about 20 minutes of no success we started walking to go to dinner! we passed this house but i felt like we needed to stop. so we went back and we clapped! (you dont knock on doors you clap at gates!) guess who it was! the refference! crazy! she is a testigo and they never let us in but she did! we taught an awesome lesson! i love the spirit!

3 MONTHS DOWN!!!!

well this week flew by!!

First off my president! HE was driving at night and a car pulled up in front of him so that he couldnt move... he started to back up and the got out of the car and threatened to shoot him so he just stopped he got out of the car and told them to take everything! they told him no and to get back in the car... so he did and the drove him around for a while like 30 minutes and then let him go... they took his car, phone, laptop, and money. he then went and got a taxi to take him home. but the weird thing is is that when the people do this they usually hold them for randsom... some one was watching over him! He is very lucky!

This week was good we didnt have much success but we did have a little! right before i got here the elders baptised a man named claudio! he is so awesome! he has been looking for wook for a long time and got a job that wouldnt let him work on sundays. as soon as he knew that he quit! then his next job his co-workers locked him in the bathroom for thirty minutes... what children... he quit that one too! but his faith is stronger then ever! he asked us for a blessing! and loved to hear the prophet speek!! what a capo!! his son is getting baptised this week and im so excited! Claudio is going to baptise him! and his wife the week after hopefully!

Today i got to got to capital! we saw the bay and this famous bridge thing! it was cool! we went to the embassy to get our DNI and that took for ever!! but it was cool we talked to some utahns that are here to work on the cordoba temple! so cool! one of the assistants to president, elder webster came with us because he had to do it too! the other three elders was fast but his and mine were slow so i got to spend a lot of time with just me and him! he is so nice! his dad and my mom worked together and so he has been so nice to me ever since i got here! he always whats to know how i am and i love it! He is a true representive of christ! but any way our taxi driver took the long way home and let us see some sweet japanes gardens and the river plata stadium! (Only the best team in argentina!) it was supper cool! too bad i forgot my camera...

Little did we know how meaningful Dalton's comment would be.  "Mom you will be happy to know i just left the most dangerous area!!"

This story is about Dalton's Mission President and the robbery occurred in the area from which Dalton was just transferred.

Armed bandits held, robbed Mormon mission president in Argentina
October 1, 2014
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — A Mormon mission president is safe after armed assailants held, robbed and released him last week in Argentina, according to a church statement and news reports.
The LDS Church confirmed the incident Wednesday involving David Paul Robertson, 52, president of the Argentina Buenos Aires West Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
President Robertson was “robbed and briefly held last week on the night of September 24th," church spokesman Dale Jones said in a statement. "The assailants took his wallet, cell phone and vehicle and then released him on the street. President Robertson is safe and has reported the incident to authorities.”
President Robertson was driving his Toyota Hilux truck when armed bandits stopped him at an intersection in Ciudadela, according to the Argentinian newspaper El Dia.
Ciudadela is a city in the Greater Buenos Aires area.
The thieves held President Robertson for a few minutes, then released him, taking his truck, computer, cell phone and cash, El Dia reported. The newspaper described the crime as an express kidnapping.
President Robertson took over as president of the Buenos Aires West mission in July, according to the LDS Church News.
President Robertson and his wife, Juliana Marie Hendershot Robertson, have seven children. The Robertsons had been living in Lima, Peru, where President Robertson had been employed by the LDS Church, prior to assuming his new eccesiastical position in Argentina.
Five days after the robbery involving President Robertson, the U.S. Embassy warned Americans living in and traveling to Argentina about a recent increase in criminal activity including express kidnappings.
The security message issued by the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires said U.S. citizens have reported a number of crimes to the embassy in recent months, including "snatch-and-grab robbery involving motorcycles and bicycles, and occasionally more serious crimes such as express kidnapping, home invasion, carjacking" and more.
The security message said Americans should avoid demonstrations and maintain a high level of vigilance.
The embassy said it did not have evidence that Americans are being targeted specifically.

So this week was crazy!! we had a mission wide traning with president that movitated elder furtado and i to give out tons of books of mormon! 24 on the week!!

on thursday we were tracting and we saw some people playing some futbol so we went and joined in! the said it was ok so we played they thought we were going to be horrible in our church clothes but we showed them!! when we joined it was 4 to 5 my team was down one and we were going to 6! elder furtado was on the other team! after a little while of playing i slotted one in! 5-5!! they got way mad, the other team, and it was then that we realized that we werent just playing for fun... they were all playing for money... we could just leave... we just got there... we played on and not long after elder furtado scored and they were content... they distributed the money and then we taught them really quickly about the restoration! loco!!

also this week i saw a dog run over by a bus... it was very sad...

not that it is getting warmer there are parrets!! what?? yea! parrets! birght green parrets! its loco!

yesterday was a day of festives!! called prima vera!! the first day of spring!! there was fireworks and people sing all day long!! crazy argentines!

one really quick reminder is for all of you to count your blessings! you never know you love something so much untill you dont have it... like for me right now is carpet!! i miss it so much... but thats ok!!

Here the sunsets are so so pretty!! i get a picture of one this week for all of you!! and also the stars!! completely different!!

Week 5!!

This week flew by and a ton happened!!

To start off! The kitten! we went to visit this invistigator who we hadnt seen in a while! we got the and were talking to her when i noticed her kitten playfully finding its way over to us! when it go over to us it scaled the fence that was between us and hopped up onto my sholder! it just sat there for a while and the crawled around my back onto my other sholder! then he hopped onto elder furtados sholder and did the same! the invistigator took him off after a little while of this and set him on the ground! he did the exact same thing over again! it was very funny and i couldnt stop laughing!

second is our investigator nestor. i cant remember if i told you about him but we meet him in the hospital.and gave him a blessing! we saw him every day after that for a week. he improved enough that he could go home. he had a tumor in one of his lungs. we called one day to comfirm our visit at his house and were told that he was back in the hospital... the following day he passed away... that was friday... so on saturday we went to his funeral. elder furtado and i helped carry the casket and it was a nice funeral.

third,i would like you to read 1 nephi 18;2-3 before reading this part! Like nephi we should all pray very often to see how the lord would have us construct our lives! not how man would...

and lastly! look and read the attacthment to this email before reading this part!

This is why im serving a mission. this is why im giving up two years of my life. im throughly convinced that we all have friends like this! and not just one many! some in countrys far away like argentina, Chile, Equador, Preu, and canada and many more! and some in the places where you live! NEVER stop looking!

I Love you all so so much! Thanks for all of the prayers!

An investigator made these ties for the Elders

P.S. do you guys remember danny aldave on my soccer team?? he is in my mission!! also my zone leader right now is elder dunn! he is from draper and know michael delahunty.

Week 4!!!

So this week was so good! The bishop bought us so much food!! it was so nice of him!!

On wednesday we went to the office and had a meeting with walter f gonzalez of the 70 and that was good!! I think it was about the book of mormons importance!! haha i didnt under stand much!! but i did under stand that he said it is imposible to recieve eternal life without reading the book of mormon sincerly more then once!! wow!! After hearing this we gave out 8 book of mormons this week!! i love it!!

On friday we go a call asking us to come to the hospital and give a blessing! so we did and nestor was the man we gave the blessing to!! he had a tumor in one of his lungs! he cant talk much and has a hard time breathing! after the blessing we taught him a lesson on the restoration of the gosple and gave him a libro de mormon! we went back saturday and sunday and taught the next two lessons!! its kind of nice that he really cant do much more then read the things we give him!! he really is accepting and understanding the thing we teach him very well! im very excited for him!!

Read the book of mormon and share it with the world!!

We didnt get much to eat this week because a lot of people forgot our lunch apointments so on saturday we were starving and i just said a little pray saying its not nessicarry but it would be nice if we could recieve some food! later that night some random inactive member gave us two lemmons for no reason at all... my campanion was so confused but i wasnt... the next day in ward council, i dont know why but the bishop asked if we had food to eat in our apartment and we said no so he said he would go buy us stuff for us to eat at night and in the morning! and the another brother said that we could go by his store any time we were hungry and get a hot dog or burger! later that night brother daou said if ever our lunch appointment is forgotten we need to go there and he will feed us!! the lord answers prayers!! i know it!! pray pray pray!

Week 2

So i have decided that it takes too much time to do a day by day report so i will just tell about some of the highlights!

First off, there are so many dogs everywhere! we walked by some house yesterday that had 12 dogs... people here are crazy! where there are alot of dogs there are a lot of puppies! the people let their kids be so rough with the puppies! one girl dropped the puppie into a bucket and started stomp on it... so sad...

I had my first baptisim! so cool!! i was very nervous that i was going to mess it up, but i didnt! he was so happy! after the doors were closed he jumped back into the water cause he was so happy!!

we were tracking and came upon this women and she lets us in. so we were teaching her about the restoration and she was saying stuff like she said she wished that she could have kids with me... it was getting very uncomfortable so we finished the lesson and left... it was pretty weird...

so people all my life have been telling me that fry sauce is only in utah... not true! turns out they have it here in argentina!! crazy!! its called salsa golf!

the hot dogs here are so so good!! i love them. elder furtado and i probably eat too many in the week! they are called panchos

i forgot to mention this last week but elder furtado was a profesional soccer player in uraguay before his mission! and has a contract to play when he gets home!

yesterday we were sitting in church and there started to be loud banging on the outside... everone scrambled out side to put their car mats on top of the car to protect them form the hail! they were about the size of the large marbles!! i was so sad that i didnt have my camera...

one huge part of the culture here is the kiss on the cheak. im still trying to get used to guys coming up to me and kissing me on the cheek..

thats about it for this week!! i love you all so very much! thank you for all of the prayers they are much needed!

Wednesday: Today i gave my first blessing! it was super awesome! Hermana mickelsen asked if i would give her one!! It was a super cool experience!!

Thursday: I got to see Elder Porter May today!! it was pretty cool! he seems to be doing good!! Elder smith and i taught a lesson! it was for an hour and a half! we taught our new investigator Gabriel for 40 minutes when we were about to end. the he said he had a really short story for us. so we said OK! he then shared stories for another 50 minutes!! they were really good! he has a very strong testimony about prayer!

Friday: I have no idea why but all i wrote in my journal was "today we had our best lesson with Raquel! it was so good!" so yea that's how the day went! i will make sure to write more!! Oh but i just remembered we got our travel plans this day!! we leave at 6 in the morning on the 11th I'm so so so excited!!

Saturday: Cool story! today i was flipping through my book of Mormon and  had a prompting to look at the articles of faith!! so i did and i read #7! it says the we believe in the interpretation of tongues!! i have been praying for the gift of tongues but not the interpretation of tongues!! and that is the hardest part for me!! so i started to pray for that!! My ability to do that has shot up!! it is amazing what god will do for us!!

Sunday: Fast Sunday!! I bore my testimony! It was cool to see for my self how much easier it was today then it was the first Sunday that i was here!

Monday:Today elder Morrill and i got to go and be investigators for an advanced class of missionaries!! it was god because i under stood everything that the were saying!! it was also good because i got to see what they/I did/do wrong in their/my lessons!!

I've had an awesome time here at the mtc but it is time that i leave!! I'm ready to get out of here!!

I love you all!! I want all of you to find time to read ether chapter 12! it is an amazing chapter on faith!! and like we should always do pray about it!!

Love, Argentina Bound Elder Groen!
